I recently read an article put out by Yoga Journal focusing on the benefits and reasoning behind why making time for a Yin yoga practice is important. The article listed 10 main points centered around Yin's ability to increase joint mobility/ flexibility, mental health, slowing our mind and stress levels down, tapping into the parasympathetic nervous system, and making space for stillness and meditation.

For those who have come to my Slow & Stretch class, we tend to focus on all of these topics. Occasionally during this class, I tend to highlight and mention a few if not most of the points talked about in this article when a specific posture is being held or during a transitioning into and out of one.

I've always personally believed Yin is just as important as the Yang of the practice, especially if you have a very active asana practice or lifestyle. And it's the balance required to reach full metta "liberation" of the overall practice in itself. But mainly, it is also sometimes just nice to clear your head space, slow your practice down, think about absolutely nothing, and just breath.
